Why Vote for Central Committee Members?

FACT: 2006 was the last election year that candidates for Central Committee 1 seats were on ballots. For the last 17 years, CC members have been appointed in lieu of election. All current CC members in District 1 were either appointed or voted in by the Central Committee not by the public.

Thank you for casting a vote and having your voice heard.

What Democratic Party Central Committee Members Do ...

Central Committee (CC) Members are elected representatives who meet monthly to carry out the mission of the party to elect strong democrats through endorsements of local Democratic candidates and measures, fundraising and political organizing efforts. CC members may also be voted as delegates to attend the California Democratic Party's State convention and vote to endorse state and national Democratic candidates. CC members appoint an alternate to serve/vote on their behalf when they are unable to attend meetings. CC members & alternates are also expected to attend and serve on standing committees of the local party.

The number of CC members in each of our five county districts are based on the number of Democrats in that district who voted in the last gubernatorial election. Voting for CC members occurs every four years during the primary of the Presidential election. Residents registered as Democrats in a district may qualify to run for Central Committee by fulfilling the signature gathering requirements through the Registrar of Voters.

One of Leslie's goals is to create more awareness and transparency about the Democratic Party's process. "The way forward is to have more people aware, knowledgeable & engaged in order to achieve a more equitable representation on all levels of the electoral process in our community." - Leslie Graves
